1. Introduction

What is Vinyl Wrapping?

Vinyl wrapping is the process of applying a thin film to the exterior of a vehicle to change its aesthetic without altering the paint underneath. It is ideal for complete colour changes or commercial branding.

Cast vs Calendared Vinyl.

Vinyl for wrapping is produced either by casting or calendaring. Cast vinyl, known for its thinness, offers greater durability and a longer lifespan. On the other hand, calendared vinyl is thicker but less durable, typically having a shorter life.  We only use cast vinyls.

How is it different from Paint?

Vinyl wrap is a cost-effective alternative to paint, offering easy customization and removability. It protects the original paint, allows for a quick update of your vehicle’s look, and comes in a variety of finishes that paint can’t easily match.

2. Your Options

How many colours are there?

There are hundreds of colours available from multiple manufacturers.  These include gloss, satin, matte and metallic finishes.  If you’re looking for something a bit wilder, we have textured films like brushed metal and carbon fibre.

Commercial vs Colour Change.

Commercial wraps are typically used for advertising and branding, whereas color change wraps are used primarily for aesthetic enhancement.  The focus on commercial wraps is quick turnaround, whereas extra effort is made on colour change wraps to hide the paintwork from the outside.

Can I get a custom design?

Absolutely.  We can mix and match different finishes to realise your vision.  For a truly one-of-a-kind wrap, we can design and digital print a unique design onto a white canvas using a wide eco-solvent printer.

What kinds of cars can I wrap?

Almost any type of car can be wrapped, from small hatchbacks to large SUVs.  It is crucial that the paintwork is in good condition for the vinyl to bond firmly.

Can I wrap anything other than cars?

Absolutely.  We’ve wrapped some strange things over the years, including motorcycles, helmets, fridges, mannequins and even a flat surfaces like kitchen counters.  The only limit is your imagination.

Can I wrap small areas or portions?

Yes, we regularly wrap roofs and bonnets in carbon fibre or gloss black.  This is a very easy and common cosmetic improvement we make to vehicles in Perth.

3. The Process

Our Process

Vinyl wrapping is a transformative process that begins with careful dismantling and thorough cleaning of your car.  Our accredited installers will meticulously lay the vinyl without any blemishes or imperfections.

How long does it take to install?

It depends on the project.  For a partial wrap on a commercial vehicle, you can expect the installation to take anywhere from 1 to 2 days.  A full colour-change wrap may take up to 5 days.

Is it necessary to remove car parts for a wrap?

Yes, for a premium finish, parts like mirrors and bumpers are removed. Some clients request to keep these on, but it can limit the wrap’s quality. For high-end vehicles, we employ accredited experts for the disassembly and reassembly.

Is it easy to replace a panel if I damage it?

Absolutely. Individual panels can be re-wrapped, making repairs straightforward without redoing the entire vehicle.

Can we wrap on ceramic coating?

Wrapping on ceramic coatings isn’t recommended, as the vinyl may not adhere properly. It’s best to apply vinyl on the original paint or clear-coat.

What about a failing clear-coat?

Vinyl should not be applied over failing clear-coat, as it can lead to poor adhesion and potential damage when the vinyl is removed.  The clear coat will need to be either repaired or removed before vinyl wrapping.

How about a post-market re-spray?

A high-quality aftermarket paint job should cure for at least three weeks before a wrap is applied, ensuring the vinyl adheres correctly.  It is crucial that the paint is correctly primed or it may lift during or after installation.

4. Quality & Workmanship

Our Quality

Everybody knows quality when they see it.  For a vehicle wrap, you can expect to see no bubbles, blemishes, lifting or wrinkles in the vinyl.  Inlays are used in some areas in reduce stress and should be nearly invisible.

Are we certified installers?

Yes, we are nationally-recognised installers with official accreditations with Avery Dennison, 3M and Orafol.  These are global leaders in manufacturing graphic materials in the world.

Will edges lift over time?

No, edges will not lift over time. We rigorously post-heat all edges and high-stress areas to eliminate memory in the vinyl and to ensure the wrap holds in the long-term.

Is paint visible after the install?

If undertaking a colour-change vinyl wrap, we take great care to hide all paintwork that is visible from the outside.  For digital print wrapping on commercial vehicles, paintwork will still be visible in the cracks.

Will we cut on my car?

No, we never put a blade directly on your paintwork.  We use use a special cutting filament called Knifeless Tape.

Will there be joins in the vinyl?

Yes, inlays and joins are used in places where over-stretching would occur.  These inlays are strategically placed to be nearly invisible.  They are common in deep recesses on bumpers.  These are not to be confused with overt patchwork that is indicative of an inexperienced installer.

Will it hide imperfections in the paint?

Vinyl wrapping can mask minor imperfections, but significant dents or scratches should be repaired beforehand for the best finish.
